Connect an IMAP account (iCloud, Yahoo, Fastmail)
Choose Add email account, then IMAP, and enter your email address with an app-specific password from your provider. Pick a provider preset and MailOver fills in the server settings for you, or enter a custom server. The first sync starts once your credentials are accepted.
First, get an app-specific password
IMAP accounts connect with an app-specific password, not the normal password you use to log in to your email. An app password is a one-off code you generate inside your provider's own security settings, and it only works for the app you create it for. iCloud, Yahoo, Fastmail, and most other providers issue them this way. Generate one for MailOver, copy it, and keep it handy for the next steps.
Where to find it depends on the provider. For Apple it is on your Apple Account security page under App-Specific Passwords. Yahoo, Fastmail, Zoho, and the others have a similar option under their account or security settings. If you cannot find it, search your provider's help for "app password."
Connect IMAP, step by step
Open Settings and choose Add email account, then IMAP. In MailOver, go to Settings, then the Account tab, find Connected accounts, select Add email account, and pick IMAP.
Pick your provider, or choose custom. Select your provider from the presets and MailOver fills in the server, port, and encryption for you. If your provider is not listed, choose custom server and enter those details yourself.
Enter your email and app password. Type your email address, paste the app-specific password you generated, and add a display name if you want one. With a preset, the server fields are already filled in.
Connect and wait for the first sync. Once your credentials are accepted, MailOver starts reading. Action Items, Highlights, and categories appear within a few minutes, and older mail keeps loading in the background.
Server settings and folders
Presets cover iCloud, Yahoo, Fastmail, Zoho, GMX, web.de, AOL, Posteo, mailbox.org, Mail.com, Yandex, and Xfinity, plus a custom option for any other IMAP host. The usual defaults are IMAP on port 993 and SMTP on port 465 with SSL, though a custom server can use STARTTLS or no encryption if that is what your provider needs. IMAP accounts sync your inbox plus your other folders, up to a per-plan limit of 5 on Free, 8 on Plus, 12 on Pro, and 25 on Ultra.
If the connection fails
The most common cause is using your normal password instead of an app-specific one, so double-check that first. Make sure IMAP is enabled in your provider's settings, and that the host and port match what your provider lists for a custom server. If it still will not connect, email [email protected] with your provider name and we will help.
