Help/Getting started/Connect your Gmail account

Connect your Gmail account

Short answer

Go to Settings, choose Add email account, and pick Gmail. Google handles the sign-in, so MailOver never sees your password, then it returns to your inbox and starts the first sync. You can connect more than one Gmail account, and you can disconnect any of them later from the same screen.

Before you start

You need a MailOver account and a Google account you can sign in to. You connect with secure OAuth, which means Google handles the sign-in and MailOver never sees your password. MailOver gets the access it needs to read and sort your mail, mark a message as read once it has processed it, and, only when you ask, send a reply for you. It does not delete or reorganize your inbox on its own. You can connect more than one Gmail account, and you can disconnect any of them later.

Connect Gmail, step by step

1

Open Settings and choose Add email account. In MailOver, go to Settings, then the Account tab, find Connected accounts, and select Add email account.

2

Pick Gmail from the provider list. Choose Gmail, and MailOver opens Google's secure sign-in in a new window.

Sign in with Google and approve access. Sign in to your Google account and approve the access MailOver requests so it can read and sort your mail and reply on your behalf when you ask. Google handles the sign-in, so MailOver never sees your password.

Wait for the first sync. MailOver returns to your inbox and starts reading. Action Items, Highlights, and categories appear within a few minutes, and older mail keeps loading in the background.

What happens next

Your first daily brief builds as the sync runs. Open the Action Items tab to see tasks with due dates, Highlights for short summaries, and FYIs for everything sorted into categories. To connect another inbox, repeat these steps from Settings; MailOver reads across all of them in one combined brief.

If the connection fails

If Google reports an error or the connection later expires, open Settings and reconnect the account, approving access when Google prompts you. If it keeps failing, remove the account and add it again. See Gmail connection failed or expired for more.
